Sue-Koto Tachi, Muromachi Era, 1500’s with Bakumatsu Era Silvered Koshirae
$9,500
Features:
A Sue-Koto katana with Yamato-inspired workmanship in outstanding tachi koshirae. The blade features a straighter sugata. It is suriage and partially signed ‘Kane’ with the remainder of the mei being truncated. The jigane features a running straight masame that blends with an itame nagare hada. The hamon is a straight suguha in nie deki. There is light nie hotsure along the nioi guchi. The blade may have been made by a late Yamato school such as Tegai.
The blade is mounted in an exceptional silvered tachi koshirae, dating to the Bakumatsu era of the late Edo period. The saya is composed of a high grade nashiji lacquer with premium decoration in maki-e relief. Specifically, the saya showcases a very fine crane painted in maki-e along with Aoi mon. The furniture is silver and matching through the tsuba and tsuka. The tsuka features externally mounted Aoi mon menuki.
